Brian Miller of Cutting Edge Martial Arts thanks the people who helped guide him and achieve his very best.
Every person, no matter how mentally or physically strong they think they are, needs a great supporting cast to truly become successful. If you take a look at the most influential people of our time you will find that they had people who inspired them to do something amazing when they were children. If it were not for my martial arts instructors, my coaches, my teachers and especially my parents, there is absolutely no way that I would be sitting where I am today. This article is really just a big thank you. A big thanks to all of the people who have inspired, motivated and changed my life for the better.
I could not have asked for a better set of parents. They are the most supportive, loving, caring, and dedicated people that I have ever met. To this day, I still try my best to live up to the qualities that my parents possess. When I look back on my life, I cannot help but be humbled by their contributions to our family and to our community. I want to express my deepest gratitude for everything they have done for me. At 27 years-old, I am blessed to still have the type of relationship that I have with my parents. They come up to our school 3-4 times a week and help out with odds and ends. My mother is currently a High Red Belt in Tae Kwon Do! Way to go Ma!
There are so many others who have inspired me in many different ways, and may not have realized it. As far back as the 6th grade, a teacher saw beyond my extreme high energy and recognized something special inside. He was the first person in my education to really make me believe in my abilities. Throughout my childhood, my martial arts instructors helped to foster my mental and physical development, which ultimately helped my self-confidence. They showed me that if I put my mind to something I could accomplish it. I had a coach in high school who pushed me, not only to become the best athlete I could, but the best person as well. A professor in college changed my entire way of thinking, my understanding of life itself, with his scientific approach to the human mind and behavior.
There are more people out there including my grandparents, my sister and many others, but you get the idea. Children need mentors in their lives; people to inspire them, to motivate them, to support them and challenge them to become the best they can be. We at Cutting Edge Martial Arts take great pride in our mentorship programs and know from experience that the lessons can be profound and lifelong.
