Salty's Pub and Bistro is a fun, friendly neighborhood restaurant and pub that offers first-rate cuisine at affordable prices. As the name implies, Salty's has a definite nautical feel. As you walk into The "New" Salty's, the pub area is directly in front of you. The evening I went there, I saw quite a few folks who looked as though they must be regulars. The dining rooms are located to "port" and "starboard." Knotty pine walls, ships lanterns and nautical accessories are all part of Salty's comfortable dcor.

Salty's offers many great seafood options but, as I perused through the menu, I was surprised to see a variety of other tempting items. The extensive menu includes everything from a fisherman's platter and baked stuffed Gulf shrimp to comfort foods, blue plate specials and all kinds of soups and sandwiches. There is no doubt that Salty's has something on their menu to suit you. I took note that all of Salty's frying is done in trans-fat free oils. So, if you want to indulge in some fried food, it's not cooked in lard or partially-hydrogenated, artery-clogging, oils.

My dinner companion and I began our meal with a tomato, basil and mozzarella salad, accompanied by a shrimp, clam, oyster and crab cocktail. The tomato, basil and mozzarella salad was wonderful, with vine- ripened tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil served with a crostini, balsamic drizzle and olive oil. Everything was so fresh and delicious; the flavors really popped. Our seafood cocktail was truly delightful. It was such a treat to enjoy all that seafood in one dish.

We continued our meal with two seafood dishes: baked stuffed Gulf shrimp and Mediterranean tilapia with shrimp and scallops (a special that evening). I ordered the Gulf shrimp, which proved to be a stellar choice. The dish consisted of jumbo Gulf shrimp filled with Salty's freshly-made crab dressing and garlic butter. The shrimp were exceedingly fresh and the crabmeat dressing was excellent. The dish was beautifully seasoned and delicate; I savored every bite. My dinner companion's meal was also a winner. Again, the seafood was very fresh, and masterfully prepared. The tilapia was served with jumbo shrimp, sea scallops, diced tomatoes, capers, kalamata olives and fresh basil. The dish was not only exquisite to look at, but it was a symphony of flavors. After all that delectable food we just had to try dessert. There were many tempting selections, but we decided on their Italian cheesecake. I must say it was another inspired choice. I have a feeling you couldn't make a poor choice at The "New" Salty's even if you tried. The cheesecake was smooth, silky and luscious with its delightful strawberry sauce and graham cracker crust. It was definitely worth every calorie.

My evening at The "New" Salty's Pub and Bistro was truly a great dining experience. From the food to the service Salty's is a must-try. If you want to enjoy high quality food without the high prices, in a casual and relaxed atmosphere, The "New" Salty's Pub and Bistro is for you.
