When we pass on our blessings to others, everybody wins.
The gift of giving is thought of frequently at this time of year. We have our Thanksgiving Day, Christmas and Hanukkah, and then our thoughts of how we can get our greatest tax deductions just in time for the end of year. But it should not be that we think of giving as a task, mandatory tithe, or a tax advantage. Giving to help our fellow man is not supposed to be a sacrifice, but a form of blessing someone with the gifts that we have been blessed with.
The greatest gift that we can give is our life. Most of us would not even consider giving our life for another, but some of our fellow men and women have chosen that honorable profession. Whether it is someone who is in the armed forces, an FBI agent, policeman, fireman, or any other professional who is willing to sacrifice their life so that we can live free and protected, we should honor them.
Giving should be something to help our fellow man. Whether it is a charitable gift or teaching someone a new trade or giving someone a job in their time of need and training them, we can and should make a difference in our world. We sow what we wish to reap. By helping others and giving back some of our time or hard-earned wealth we can reduce the misery of those in our society who are lacking. If we could help someone off of government welfare and get them back on their feet we could reduce our government's debt burden and give someone hope for the future. There are givers and takers in every society, and some may never want to escape from their dreadful life cycle. However, if we try and motivate people to give first and build upon that so that every person who receives then wants to pass it along as a gift to their fellow man, we can rebuild our depreciating society. The government should not be our caregiver. We have enough wealth in this nation so that not one person should be hungry, homeless, or jobless.
"It is every man's obligation in this world to put back in this world the equivalent of what he has taken from it."
- Albert Einstein
There are times when we wonder how we are going to make ends meet. But somehow through perseverance and hard work we have made it through the tough times. Giving back to society is an honor that we have been given. It frees us to build for the future and watch as others have the ability to catch this strange fever. To see another man's eyes after helping him in his most wretched hour is one of the greatest gifts that I have ever known. Each day, try to reach out to someone and give whatever you can. You will see a greater return on your investment than anything that you have tried thus far in your life.
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
- Winston Churchill
