Did you know that we have a piece of Greece right here in Halfmoon. Grecian Gardens is a wonderful family-style restaurant with a distinctively Greek flavor.

Grecian Gardens is a large restaurant with three dining- rooms, and a popular bar area that is off to itself separate from the dining areas. There is nothing fancy about Grecian Gardens, but it is clean, comfortable and a very nice place to dine. Whether you're gazing upon a Greek statue, or murals with Grecian scenes everything at Grecian Gardens is very Greek.

Grecian Gardens has an extensive menu with offerings such as moussaka, spanakopita, chicken souvlaki, Greek pizza, gyros, and many other Greek dishes. But if you are not a lover of Greek food there is no need to fret. There are a plethora of dishes for you to choose from as well. There is pizza(dough made on premises), all kinds of burgers, grinders, chicken parmigiana, shrimp scampi, and many, many more.

Being a lover of Greek food I ordered their spanakopita, and my dinner companion had the shrimp scampi Athenian style. The spanakopita was a perfect choice for me as I adore spinach. Spanakopita is cooked spinach and feta cheese, scallion and dill cooked between layers of filo dough. First let me say that my piece of spanakopita was more than generous. The spinach with the feta melted through it, and baked in the thin , delicate layers of filo dough was mouth-watering.

My entre came with a salad and Greek potatoes. The potatoes were baked in olive oil and lemon juice and seasoned beautifully. My dinner companion was equally pleased with his choice. Again, the portion was more than ample. The shrimp scampi Athenian style consisted of jumbo shrimp that were prepared scampi style with sauted broccoli and mushrooms, topped with feta cheese and served with linguini. What a terrific spin on scampi! The dish was a huge success. Everthing was fresh, and the different foods melded together for a fabulous taste experience.

For dessert we shared a piece of baklava, pumpkin cream pie, and homemade rice pudding. Yes we made pigs of ourselves. It was difficult to decide what to order as there were many tempting choices. Each dessert we ordered was scrumptious. The pumpkin cream pie was light, dreamy and a bit different. The baklava (honey, nuts and sugar in layers of filo dough) was awesome, and the rice pudding creamy and delicious.

I am happy to select Grecian Gardens as one of Lori's picks. The food is fantastic, with something for everyone. The portions are more than adequate, the service very good, and the prices fair. If you haven't been to Grecian Gardens yet, I highly recommend that you do so.
